THE SYC U-8 "BRIDGE" SOCCER PROGRAM
SYC Soccer is continuing the highly successful “Bridge” Soccer program for the Spring 2010.  The program seeks to identify rising Under-8 boys and girls in the Fall (current Under-7 boys and girls this past Spring) that have genuine interest/enthusiasm for the game, have acquired/developed a very basic soccer aptitude faster than many of their teammates, classmates and neighbors and would like to play with children of similar outlook on the game.

The program begins with the selection of qualified and interested coaches. Candidates must meet the criterion developed by the SYC Soccer Commissioners. Candidates are selected following submission of an application "package" that includes a soccer resume, sample training plan, have conducted a "basic" youth training session, licensing courses and completed identifiable seminars and conferences.

To minimize the impact of exclusion to children often associated with tryouts, the developmental team coaches observe children in recreational play and then invite them to participate on the team. Continued monitoring of recreation league games allows the coaches to identify new players to the area. Different players may be added to each week’s game roster to augment the initial core group of players.

The boys and girls teams receive training from a professional trainer as well as from their licensed coach. During the soccer seasons, fall and spring, the teams participate in organized scrimmages with children from other Northern Virginia soccer clubs who are at comparable athletic soccer levels. In the winter, teams participate in indoor soccer leagues at Fairfax Sportsplex, Dulles Sportsplex or other indoor facilities in our area.

The training sessions and games are conducted in a strict player friendly  environment where coaches are instructed before the season on what is permissible conduct from the sidelines from parents, coaches, friends and family. The "Bridge" teams will participate in seasonal all-star tournaments.
