SYC has made significant investments and taken considerable time and effort to develop and improve the quality and safety of our rectangular fields. We need your help to protect these investments and create opportunities to do more at other SYC fields. We have brought portions of our field maintenance and upkeep in-house and need a cadre of volunteers to be part of that program to help groom the rectangular fields at Hooes Road Park and Coach Bob Elseth Field (near Greensprings Village).
As part of the "Green Team" Field Maintenance Program:
-- A mowing schedule will be built and adjusted based on the needs of the sports, field conditions/wear, volunteers’ availability, weather, etc. A Green Team volunteer is not required to do a mowing assignment every week but will be able to sign up for assignment(s) according to their availability. Most (but not all) mowings are generally done during the weekdays.
-- Your time will count towards your annual volunteer requirements.
-- You will provide a vital service to our athletes and the community -- safer and better quality rectangular fields.
-- You must be 18 years or older, and willing to learn to safely operate a commercial grade rider mower (safety and operating instructions/training will be provided - it is fairly easy - and fun - to operate after some brief instruction). Expect approximately 2 hours for a mowing assignment (not all mowing assignments will take this long).
