Track

The purpose of the Springfield/South County Youth Club (SYC) Track and Field program is to introduce the area youth to the sport of track & field and running through thoughtful instruction, fun activities, and purposeful coaching.

SYC’s running programs have always been special. They are built for everyone. Whether the athlete is a novice or a seasoned veteran of the program, we try to accommodate every one through targeted goal setting, individualized feedback and most importantly – fun. Our job as coaches, especially for such a young age group, is not to over train them or burn them out, but to build their confidence and knowledge of the sport and its benefits. When they leave our program and transition into high school they are ready to succeed in virtually any athletic program. Many of our alumni choose to continue their track & field career successfully into high school.

SYC Track and Field offers a winter season from January-March and a full spring season from March-June.  Athletes will have the opportunity to compete year round in local meets.

The following events are offered:

  • 100M
  • 200M
  • 400M
  • 800M
  • 1600M
  • Shotput, Long Jump (4th grade +)

We teach athletes proper form, basic running skills, and hone in on the skills needed for endurance running and fast, explosive sprinting.

For more information, please refer to the Program Overview linked above or under the "Program Overview" tab.

SYC offers a winter conditioning program for players who are interested in preparing for the spring track season or just for staying active during the cold winter months. The winter conditioning program is an outdoor program that is held on Sundays at a local area high school track.

Athletes will train on an outdoor track and/or gym space similar to years past, however; this year athletes will have the option to race in an indoor space running events such as the 55m dash, 200m, 400m, 800m, Mile, and 3k.

Due to the weather during the winter months athletes must dress in layers. We will have practice outdoors as often as possible but may be required to use gym space. Water is also a must.
