Lacrosse Coaches Corner

Volunteer

Thank you for volunteering! Your dedication of time and effort is greatly appreciated by the players, parents, and everyone else associated with SYC Lacrosse. This page is a good source of information , and will help you with your team administration. Our objectives are to make team administration as easy as possible for you, and to enable our Coaches to focus their talents on teaching the players!

All head and assistant coaches, please click "Register Here" on the right-hand side to volunteer. All coaches must volunteer on-line every season. New coaches will be required to complete a brief application for a background check. If you are a returning coach, after you have indicated that you will be coaching, you will not be prompted to apply for a background check unless your previous clearance has expired.

Please be sure to complete the concussion awareness training. Your completed training is valid for 1 year.

Concussion Awareness Training

When you register as a volunteer with SYC, you will be required to complete the Concussion Education Training (CET) in order to maintain compliance with Virginia State Law.

NVYLL Coaches Compliance

Coaches - please see the list of compliant coaches from the NVYLL.  If you are not on the list you must go to their website and sign up to coach, And execute their coach of conduct Form, as soon as possible. If you do not do this, you will not be permitted to coach the game this weekend.

NVYLL OFFICIAL Rosters were due to your boys director or girls director yesterday.

You must have the NVYLL EXCHANGE Roster ready for your game this weekend, and all games this season. Under league rules if you do not exchange the roster with the opposing head coach you will technically forfeit your game.

All head coaches - Please provide your name, the team you are coaching, email, and mobile phone number to your coaches director asap. The league needs this to identify our teams on their website

Boys Lacrosse Rules

To determine the governing rules for NVYLL lacrosse games:

1.     Begin with the National Federation of High School (NFHS) Lacrosse Rules for Boys;

2.     Then consider the US Lacrosse Youth Council exceptions (located in the back of the NFHS rule book);* and

3.     Finally consider the NVYLL rule exceptions (see Appendix 5a of the NVYLL rules, which are linked below).

*All head coaches will be issued copies of the latest NFHS rule books with their team gear.

Coach Concussion Checklist!

Coaches, please carry this concussion checklist with you to all lacrosse games and practices.  Concussions are not as common in youth sports as they are in the upper levels, and the NVYLL’s No or Modified Body Checks rules makes the sport even safer for the kids, but better to be prepared for unexpected injuries.  Thank you!
