On a beautiful sunny day at South Run District Park, the SYC Screaming Eagles reasserted dominance over crosstown rival SYA Cardinals with a near sweep in an afternoon full of rugby action.

 

In the prelims, we beat them 76-30 in the first U-11 game, but narrowly lost the second U-11 game 32-42.  SYC's U-15 killer "B"s beat SYA by a point (don't know the actual score), while the U-17s beat them 58-50 and SYC's coaches (and a few parents) beat SYA's coaches/parents 29-14.

 

The Challenge Cup match, featuring the U-15 "A" sides of each club, was never in doubt as SYC jumped out to an early 17-0 lead, then cruised to a comprehensive 55-19 victory.  SYC try scorers were Ian Green (3), Stephen Vu (2), Matthew Bursley, Kevin Doyle, Ben Turner, and Gareth Willatt; conversions by Willatt (3) and Vu (2).

 

Our CC roster:  Matthew Bursley, Michael Bursley, Kevin Doyle, Ian Green, Jared Hornaday, Nick Kirwan, Paul Miller, Ben Turner, Stephen Vu, Gareth Willatt, and Christina Zarceno-Pena.  Each of SYC's Red, White, and Blue U-15 teams was represented.

 

So, SYC maintains possession of the Northern Virginia Youth Rugby Challenge Cup.  Congrats, everybody!
