Frequently Asked Questions for Regular Season Cheer!

WHEN AND HOW OFTEN ARE PRACTICES?

Practices are once a week at various Fairfax County elementary schools. Generally, practice locations are in West Springfield area with a few in Central Springfield. Exact practice day is not known until squads are formed after registration closes and the Cheer Commissioner allocates the practice locations. Rec squads only practice on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. Practices will generally not start before 6pm. Coaches will reach out to their squad about 1-2 weeks before the season starts with practice information.

WHEN ARE GAMES?

Fall Cheer: Games are once a week and are on Saturdays or Sundays at various times. We try to cheer at local games but squads may have to travel a few times to games that are further away (30-45 minutes). Times for games range throughout the day. Cheer squads may not have a game every weekend, depending on availability and location of games. There could be 2-3 weekends without a game for each cheer squad. SYC does not control the football schedule; it is created and changed by FCYFL.

Winter Cheer: Games are once a week on Saturdays at various Fairfax County Elementary and Middle School gyms. Squads will generally cheer at the same location and time each week.

DOES SYC CHEER TEACH TUMBLING?

We do not teach tumbling. SYC Cheer is focused on teaching basics of recreation cheer and we are not qualified to teach tumbling. Our coaches may incorporate tumbling into pep rally routines but it will be using skills that cheerleaders currently have.

Cheer Uniform Return

HOLDING A SYC CHEER UNIFORM FROM A PREVIOUS SEASON?

Please note that holding a cheer uniform during the cheer season, when your daughter is not cheering, prevents another cheerleader from cheering in many situations. Please be considerate and return your outstanding unifom ASAP.
