SYC SEVERE WEATHER POLICY
THUNDER AND LIGHTNING:
As lightning approaches, the time in seconds from seeing the strike to hearing the thunder decreases.
Flash to Bang Measurement: For each 5 seconds count, lightning is 1 mile away. At a count of 15 seconds (3 miles) there is immediate danger. Have all players and adults leave the field and seek shelter immediately. It is recommended that you have players and adults leave the field at a count of 30 seconds (6 miles).
To return to outdoor practice/game: Wait a minimum of 30 minutes from the last lightning strike of a flash-to-bang count no less than 30 seconds.
TORNADO:
If a tornado warning is issued, all outside SYC events will be suspended until the warning is removed. All players and spectators in a gym: Go to the interior hall or room in an orderly way as you are told. Crouch low, head down, and protect the back of your head with your arms. Stay away from windows and large open rooms like gyms.
