“Awesome”, “Great”, “Incredible”, “Thanks for doing this for us”, were the words from the SYC House Coaches regarding the SYC House Soccer Coaches Appreciation Night held in their honor at South Run Recreational Center (Field #5) for all SYC House Soccer League Directors, Coaches, and Assistant Coaches on Saturday, 12 June 2010.
The House Soccer Appreciation Night was designed to bring all House Soccer coaching volunteers and their families together to celebrate and be recognized for their contribution & dedication to our young soccer athletes for the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010. Over 65 LDs, coaches/assistant coaches, along with their families, attended the celebration and were recognized.
As families arrived, Golden Boot (local area soccer training provider) rallied the kids of all ages and offered an hour of exciting games and challenges for prizes and give-aways. We thank Golden Boot for generously donating the time to SYC to do this for our Coaches families.
In conjunction with the Appreciation Night, the coaches played their final coaches match of the season, Spring 2010 Coaches Cup. It was a fun, exciting yet fierce, hard battle on the turf. Coaches of all calibers took the field to compete for the seasonal Coach Cup trophy. With two (2) goals late in the second half, the Boys’ Team Coaches were victorious once again with a 3-2 win over the Girls’ Team Coaches. We thank Gene Thomas and John Olsen for taking time out of their weekend to referee this unique match of skill and determination.

We need to give a very big thank you to our local Springfield business community who generously supported our Coaches this season by donating various gifts that were handed out to our coaches in appreciation for their dedication and unselfishness to the Club they serve. There were free summer camps, Family 4-Pack tickets and signed paraphernalia by DC United and the Washington Freedom, food certificates from local restaurants, and an MP3 player to name just a few.
The House Soccer Commissioner, Woody Weir, just wants to thank all of the coaches and their families that participated in the Appreciation Night and for those LDs, coaches, and Asst. Coaches that couldn’t make it, for just another great year of soccer.
“We (SYC) look for forward to every season being a great season and to enjoy celebrations like this, but most of all, without our volunteer coaches and League Directors, SYC would not be where it is today”, said House Commissioner Weir.
