THE SYC U-8 "BRIDGE" SOCCER PROGRAM
SYC House Soccer is continuing the highly successful “Bridge” Soccer program this season. The program seeks to identify rising Under-8 boys and girls who have genuine interest/enthusiasm for the game, have acquired/developed a very basic soccer aptitude faster than many of their teammates, classmates and neighbors and would like to play with children of similar outlook on the game.
The program begins with the selection of qualified and interested coaches. Candidates must meet the criterion developed by the SYC Soccer Commissioners. Candidates are selected following submission of an application "package" that includes a soccer resume, sample training plan, have conducted a "basic" youth training session, licensing courses and completed identifiable seminars and conferences.
To minimize the impact of exclusion to children often associated with tryouts, the developmental program encourages any registered U-8 House Soccer player to join the program. The Bridge program staff with continue monitoring recreational league games which allows the coaches to identify new players for the program as the season progresses. However, to participate, registration is required.
The boys and girls teams receive training from a professional trainer as well as from licensed coaches. During the soccer seasons, fall and spring, the teams participate in organized scrimmages with children from other Northern Virginia soccer clubs who are at comparable athletic soccer levels.
The training sessions and games are conducted in a strict player friendly environment where coaches are instructed before the season on what is permissible conduct from the sidelines from parents, coaches, friends and family. The "Bridge" teams may participate in seasonal all-star tournaments.
