Soccer Coach Training and Education
SYC is committed to providing quality coaches for all of our players, but that would not be possible without our many dedicated volunteer coaches. As a soccer club, we want to help you be the best coach you can be by providing the training and education to enhance your success and credibility.
We are now hosting Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) coaching education courses, and will reimburse part or all of your coach education registration costs (make link to appropriate page in soccer guide). We encourage you to participate in the courses appropriate for your team and believe that once you’ve taken a course, you will want to continue your coaching development.
2007 RECENT EVENTS
SYC kicked off its Coaching Education this summer to great success. Gary Allen, from VYSA, taught an F license course to 21 SYC Coaches on the 4th of August giving these coaches a in depth look at coaching U6 to U10 age groups. Our next event, the SYC the “G” Course to parents and coaches of our youngest players…the Mini-Kickers and the U6’s. Local soccer legend, Bill Crestwick, trained and entertained almost 200 players, parents and coaches at HooesRoadPark on the 18th of August. Bill discussed and demonstrated many creative, age-appropriate activities for the youngest soccer players. At this age, it’s all about having fun with the soccer ball in a creative, supportive environment. Bill will host the next “G” Course in March 2008. Both events were a huge success and only the beginning of our enhanced soccer coaches education program!
F License Course on March 8th and 15th. This is a 6 hour session that includes classroom and field training sessions focusing on the U6 to U10 age groups.
E License Course February 23-25. This is an 18 hour course which includes classroom and field training sessions focused on U-12 and older by expanding the coach’s knowledge and understanding of the technical and tactical demands of the game and the development process necessary for players these ages.
D License Course March 1-3 and 7-9, 2008. This is a 36 hour course which builds on the E License course providing greater depth of the technical and tactical demands of the game for U12 and older. There are prerequisites for this course, so please check this link for more information. The D License is a prerequisite for continuing your development as a professional coach under the US Soccer Federation (USSF) national program.
