Travel Team Manager's Guide

SYC Travel Teams:

Managers will NOT submit coaches or assistant coaches for volunteer credit if they have not met this requirement, with evidence by a VYSA E license certificate.

This policy has been announced at the past 3-4 preseason coach meetings, sent out via email a couple of times, and recorded in the SYC Soccer Committee minutes.

The intent is for ALL of our travel players to receive qualified coaching and training at all practices and games.

Per the SYC Soccer Program Guide/Travel Soccer Program…ALL (not some) coaching candidates must possess at least an E license from VYSA. By definition Coach = Head and Assistants.

1) SYC volunteer credit will no longer be granted for unlicensed SYC Travel Coaches and Assistants.

2) By policy, the SYC Travel Commissioner does not select Assistant Coaches but can and will remove coaches based on non-compliance with this requirement. Proof of certificate will be required.

3) Club reimburses cost, so no excuse other than time commitment of 18 hours.

4) Current coaches or assistant coaches may take an SYC sponsored course or sign up for a local course provided by other clubs in the region.

5) Volunteer credit for the Virginian is only authorized for one team representative who must attend all Virginian Rep meetings from January to May (90 minutes each) to pass the information to all team parents. The pre-tournament jobs and Memorial Day weekend work is financially compensated by a team payout to the team and because of this  no other team representatives receive volunteer credit.
