Game Field Equipment
SETUP/TAKEDOWN Instructions
Below are the locations for the home field setup equipment designated as SYC home fields for travel soccer on Saturdays or Sundays.  Ensure that the equipment is picked up and dropped off the same day from these locations.  Do not lose the bags for the nets and the metal spikes for the corner poles. DO NOT BEND THE SPIKES ON THE SMALL SIDED FIELD U9-U12 PORTABLE GOALS FEET! Make the hole in the ground first with a large spike and hammer, and then gently place the four feet spikes into that hole. It costs $250 for 4 new feet each season.

Most teams have their own assigned paint machine, but there is one or more at Hooes Road Park, Greensprings, and Franconia Thomas Drive, and team reps can pick up paint from the SYC office/warehouse. We ordered a new type of paint today in smaller boxes and less cans.

Key Middle School #1 & #2, Franconia Park Fields #3 Large (Thomas Drive between Meriwether and Bowie Drive) at Kevin Lennox’ Carport, 6107 Thomas Drive, around the corner from the park on the right side of Thomas Drive after you pass Springfield Estates Elem School.  1 set of 2 large nets for Franconia #3 in black duffel bag, 1 sets of corner poles in a red bag. Two painters.  2 sets of  (4 long gray/black/maroon bags) of portable 6 by 18 ft goals and nets for use only at Key Middle School. 4-6 sand bag weights, 2 sets of corner poles in a red bag.

West Springfield HS

Lights are in a black box on a tree located in the woods behind the football scoreboard. The key to the padlock for the lights are in the BLUE SYC shed on the left side towards the practice fields and portable potties. In the BLUE SYC shed will be 1 set of weighted black stands for corner flags and 4 green and 4 black 40 lb KWIK goal sand weighted anchor bags to be used to keep the nets in place. The combination is 2143 to the storage shed lock, keep it locked at all times. The field and track and bleacher areas need to be cleaned up with no debris left around by the last home team that has takedown duties. Please tell all parents that they must sit in the stands during the games @ WSHS and NOT in their chairs on the track.

DURING THE SPRING SEASON: We use the permanent HS soccer goals in place. DO NOT TAKE THE NETS OFF OF THE GOALS.

DURING THE FALL SEASON:

There are two portable goals that will be off the stadium field, on the grass behind each football goal post that will need to picked up and put in place and the net secured with velcro, and sand bag weights put in place from the BLUE SYC shed. DO NOT TAKE THE NETS OFF OF THE GOALS.

The last game of the day on Sunday the SYC team takedown crew needs to move the two portable goals by picking them up and placing them off the turf field to the two opposite ends on the grass behind the football goal posts and take the 4 corner flags, sandbag weights, and put them away in the BLUE shed. DO NOT TAKE THE NETS OFF OF THE GOALS. All home teams should be cleaning up the field area on the home and away sides.  The takedown team has the final cleanup responsibilities.

We need to keep our and opponent players, benches, canopies, chairs off the $400K new red track.

Hooes Road Park #4 Back Field (U9&U10) and #3 Right Side Field (U11&U12) closest to the Shed.

Two sets (4 long black bags) of portable 6 by 18 ft goals and nets are in the new Hooes Road Park Gray Storage Shed, the combination lock is 3412.  There is also 2 field painters,  2 sets of corner flags, 6-8 black sand bag holders in there or in the unlocked metal storage box on the right side of Hooes Road Park Field #4. Repaint the white lines each weekend so that they do not fade out over time, paint needs to be picked up from the SYC office prior to the weekend when you have first game setup.  DO NOT DAMAGE THE FEET OF THE PORTABLE GOALS. USE THE LARGE SPIKE AND HAMMER TO MAKE THE HOLES IN THE GROUND FIRST BEFORE YOU SET THE FEET IN THE GROUND. DO NOT STOMP ON OR BANG THE GOALPOST INTO THE GROUND. REPLACEMENT FEET ARE EXPENSIVE $250 FOR 4 EACH.

UNTIL THE ENTRANCEWAY IS PAVED,  THERE WILL BE NO PARKING IN THE PARKING LOT OR USE OF THE PARKING LOT ENTRANCE DUE TO CONSTRUCTION. ALL PARENTS AND PLAYERS MUST PARK ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STREET (SPRING VILLAGE DRIVE) AND WALK OVER THE GRASS HILL TO THE FIELD.

First game on the schedule will have setup on Saturdays and if no Saturday games, then on Sundays. Do not takedown the nets or move the goals after Saturday games (unless there is bad weather), just secure the corner flags in the brown metal box near the white fence, combination lock 2143. Two red colored nets and four corner poles are located inside the brown metal box combination lock 2143 PLEASE DO NOT MISPLACE THE COMBINATION LOCKS. There are 8 KWIK goal green sandbag anchors at the field to provide 2 weighted anchors for each side of the goal supports, which should be stored inside brown metal box when not in use, the nets should be secure to the ground using pegs in the back (pegs may have to be replaced during the season if lost or broken.  For Sunday takedown or bad weather on Saturday afternoons, the metal goals are to be carried off the field and placed laying down next to the white fence at the end near the parking lot and locked with the combination lock 2143 and chain. We do not want the goals left on the field during the week. There is a small footstool in the box for use to put on and take off the nets. DO NOT DRAG THE GOALS ACROSS THE FIELD, PICK THEM UP OFF THE GROUND.  There is a painter next to the brown metal box. Please paint the lines on both Saturdays and Sundays to make sure the lines do not fade out with heavy rainfall. Bring 2-3 extra game balls for the far end when it goes into the woods behind the goal or into the parking lot under the fence, or into the weeds on the players side or over the fence on the parents sideline. TAKEDOWN CREW: Remove all trash and debris near the field, bleachers, fences, and the entire parking lot, pull the trash bag out of the gray container by the entrance, replace new bag the small metal box next to it.  DO NOT PLACE THIS BAG OF TRASH IN THE CONSTRUCTION DUMPSTER AND DO NOT LEAVE IT NEAR THE LOCKED DUMPSTERS. There is no pickup service at Greensprings, a volunteer MUST take it across the street and put in the HOOES ROAD PARK DUMPSTER.  Do not damage the large red mower in the white UHAUL trailer.

South Run Park Field #5 turf field closest to the parking lot

Brown metal box is NOW located on the far side opposite of the bleachers of SR #5 chained to a light pole (between SR #5 and SR #6).  Slightly to the right of midfield as you face SR #6. The only equipment in the box is for SR #5.  Combo for the box is 3254.note change adding 1 to each of the old number 2143  IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO KEEP THIS METAL STORAGE BIN LOCKED AT ALL TIME.

The lock on the equipment box at South Run has been arranged so it operates as designed - just like the box at Hooes Road Park.  In other words, the lock is fixed inside the lock alcove. The box itself is still chained to the pole.  The unneeded chain is inside the box.  Once aligning the rollers, if the lock doesn’t pop on pushing, a tap with the slide bar may help. TO OPEN:  Dial the combination, push on the lock to cause it to spring open, slide the box latch to open, and lift the lid. (If not relocking the lock during the day, recommend the lid closed and the latch bar slid to the closed position to keep the curious out.  This keeps the lid from being lifted and with the lock in place most people assume the box is locked.) TO CLOSE:  Close the lid making sure the latch bar is in the open position which requires the combo lock to be open, slide the latch bar to the closed position, dial the lock combo to something other than the combo, line up the hasp on the lock and push the lock closed.  Test that the lock will NOT spring to open position, that the latch bar will NOT slide to open position, and that the box lid will NOT lift.

Extra care needs to be taken on the nets to ensure that they reach the ground on both sides near the goal post and in the back, DO NOT RUN THE NETS OVER THE TOP CORNER SUPPORTS. Use the black sand bags to make sure there is no gap or hole just inside the post, the back edge of the nets is not as important as the sides.  I find that nets go into and come out of duffle bags easiest when stuffed in like sleeping bags, rather than rolling into a ten pound bundle to fit into a 5 pound opening. When net is taken down, it is dropped behind the goal, grab a handful at one end and stuff into bag, grab another handful and stuff, etc. When taking out, grab a handful and it will unravel like fishing net as you walk across back of goal - don’t have to unbend/unroll/untangle, etc.

Gear in box:Duffel bag with 2 yellow nets, stakes, velcro, and mallet.4 turf corner flags and new rubber bases (less susceptible to blowing over).first aid kit. There is some extra velcro and extra stakes in a cardboard box, but these should only be needed if the others in the bag become lost or unserviceable, OR use to augment white nets. Need:  ladder - I have one and forgot to put it in the box.  If white nets remain, may need to use it very little.

U14B have games every Sat from early until 12:30 so the field should already be set up for later games.
U19G have games every Sat from 12:30 to 4:00
Travel has many Sat after U19G - will remain set up UNLESS they are not present when last U19G game is over.
