George Angulo was a longtime volunteer with SYC, serving as a coach and deputy commissioner, as well as a member of the SYC Board of Directors, until his sudden passing in July of 2016.

George often expressed that youth sports were foundational to the development of the younger generation, stating, “I have a strong belief that children should participate in youth sports for discipline, sportsmanship, team building, and overall development.  As an SYC board member, I wish to commit my time and resources to improve SYC access and participation, and to support the volunteers and families within the Springfield/South County Youth Club community."

SYC is accepting contributions to the George Angulo Scholarship Award fund where two $2,000 scholarships are awarded annually to high school seniors (one boy and one girl) with a history of community volunteerism. Participation with SYC is not required, but is considered.
