2023 AAU Indoor Track and Field National Championships

House of Speed has 2 National Champions!  What a weekend for the House of Speed at the 2023 AAU Indoor Track & Field National Championships!  The House of Speed took 17 athletes to the Indoor Championships over the 3-day weekend of March 3-5th and came home with 14 All-American Medals including: 

  • 2 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS, and
  • 8 All-Americans (Top 8 in the nation)

Congratulations to National Champion and triple All-American Dillon House who won the boys 14-year-old Long Jump, placed 3rd in the Triple Jump and was part of the All-American 4x400 Relay team!

Congratulations to Thomas Kim, a returning Indoor Champion who once again became National Champion in the 3000m and achieved All-American status in the 800m!

The House of Speed athletes competed amongst the best in the country this weekend against over 2500 athletes and we are proud of ALL the athletes including Matthew Hergenroeder, Tyler House, Duke Okonta, Paulina Darmenova, Thomas Kim, Caleb James, Alex Featherly, Joy Okonta, Dillon House, Jack Oliver, Jonas Yiengst, Ronald Trott, Zachary Petersen, Zachary Paredes, Aiden Ragsdale, Leah DeVoe and Marek Manka.

In addition to the 2 National Champions, House of Speed is proud to claim 8 All-Americans – Thomas Kim, Caleb James, Jonas Yiengst, Ronald Trott, Dillon House, Alex Featherly, Zachary Paredes and Zachary Petersen. 

The weekend began with a bang on Friday with Ronald Trott coming in 11th in the nation in the 200 with a personal record and both Zachary Petersen and Dillon House achieving personal records.  Matthew Hergenroeder, Tyler House, Duke Okonta and Joy Okonta also competed in the 200m with both Mathew and Tyler achieving personal records.    Our 1500m athletes then led the field with 3 All Americans (Caleb James, Jonas Yiengst and Zachary Paredes).  Jonas Yiengst placed 3rd in the nation running a personal record along with Caleb James, Zachary Paredes, Jack Oliver, and Alex Featherly also achieving personal records. Dillon House earned the first of our two National Championship medals on Friday by winning the Long Jump. We ended the day with the 400m, with four HOS athletes competing including Zachary Petersen and Paulina Darmenova making the top 20th in the nation.

On Saturday, the House of Speed athletes continued their streak with our 3000m runners again leading the field with Thomas Kim being crowned National Champion in his age group, then Jonas Yiengst becoming a double All-American placing 2nd in 14-year-old boys, and Caleb James, Alex Featherly and Jack Oliver all achieving personal records and All-American status for Caleb and Alex.  Dillon House then placed 3rd in the Triple Jump achieving a personal best and another All-American status.  House of Speed athletes also competed in the 800m run and 60m dash on Saturday.  Congrats again to Ronald Trott for placing 11th in the nation in the 60m dash, along with Thomas Kim making All-American Status in the 800m and Zachary Paredes running a thrilling 800m just missing another All-American status placing 9th overall by .01 seconds!  Congratulations also to all of our 800m runners who ran great races, including Paulina Darmenova, Leah DeVoe, Marek Manka, Aiden Ragsdale and Jonas Yiengst.  Saturday night, we closed out the meet with our 14 year-old boys running an exciting 4x400m relay earning All-American status by placing 5th overall!  Ronald Trott led the way with a spectacular run putting the team in contention, then Zachary Paredes moving the team up, Dillon House maintaining our place and Zachary Petersen, the only true 400m runner passing runners in the 4th leg to earn 5th place for the team on his birthday!

We closed out the meet on Sunday starting with our youngest athletes, Matthew Hergenroeder, Tyler House and Duke Okonta in the long jump and finished the day with Paulina Darmenova in the 400m.  Congrats to our athletes, including Paulina Darmenova placing in the top 15th in the nation in the 400m dash.

This 2023 AAU Indoor National Track and Field Championship was a long, yet rewarding competition and congratulations to all the athletes, and to our assistant coaches – Coach Caren Hergenroeder and Coach Damon House who were there with me the entire weekend as well as our wonderful parents who without them, none of this would be possible.  Go HOUSE OF SPEED!!!!
