Return to Play Guidelines

Located below is the current SYC COVID-19 Guidance/Policy for outdoor/indoor play.  The SYC COVID-19 Guidance/Policy has been updated and includes safeguards based on the uncertainty of the different COVID-19 variants spreading rapidly.  It is effective on August 1, 2021.

SYC OUTDOOR SPORTS COVID-19 POLICY (practices/scrimmages/games/meets and/or tournaments hosted by SYC):

  1. Masks are highly encouraged but NOT REQUIRED for players and fully vaccinated individuals. Non-vaccinated, non-player participants (volunteers, referees, spectators, etc.) are required to wear a mask per the Governor of Virginia’s COVID-19 guidance/policy.

  2. No sharing of personal equipment (water bottles, gloves, etc.)

  3. Still recommend wiping playing equipment (balls, etc.) at least twice a game (beginning and halftime or between quarters/periods).

  4. No more Daily Check-In.  However, if a player or family member is exhibiting COVID-like symptoms, the player and/or family is asked not to attend practices/scrimmages/games/matches until the symptoms have gone away.  Usually a period of 7 days.

  5. Any fully vaccinated/non-vaccinated SYC participant (player/parent/coach/spectator) who has been exposed to an individual with COVID-19, has the option of (1) quarantine for a period of fourteen (14) days and be symptom-free before they may return to SYC activities or (2) taking a COVID-19 test no earlier than after the 5th day of the fourteenth (14) day quarantine period.  If the COVID-19 test is negative, they may return to SYC activity immediately.  Any SYC participant (player/parent/ coach/spectator) that tests positive for COVID-19 must quarantine for a period of fourteen (14) days, produce a negative COVID-19 test result taken no earlier than after the 5th day of that quarantine, and be symptom-free before returning to SYC activities.

  6. Report any positive COVID-19 cases associated with youth sports to the SYC Operations Manager (still a County requirement).

SYC OUTDOOR COVID-19 POLICY (SYC teams attending practices/scrimmages/games/meets/ tournaments hosted by other clubs/venues):

Traveling SYC Teams will follow the established COVID-19 policies of the host club/venue while participating in their practices/scrimmages/games/meets/tournaments.

If you have any questions, please email the SYC Return-to-Play Committee at return2play@sycva.com

SYC INDOOR SPORTS COVID-19 POLICY (practices/scrimmages/games/meets and/or tournaments hosted by SYC):

  1. Per Fairfax County guidance, masks are still required indoors for all spectators/coaches/ volunteers/referees regardless of vaccination status.

  2. Players may choose to wear masks or not wear masks while playing.  That is a family decision.

  3. No sharing of personal equipment (water bottles, gloves, etc.)

  4. Still recommend wiping playing equipment (balls, etc.) at least twice a game (beginning and halftime or between quarters/periods).

  5. No more Daily Check-In.  However, if a player or family member is exhibiting COVID-like symptoms, the player and/or family is asked not to attend practices/scrimmages/games/matches until the symptoms have gone away.  Usually a period of 7 days.

  6. Any fully vaccinated/non-vaccinated SYC participant (player/parent/coach/spectator) who has been exposed to an individual with COVID-19, has the option of (1) quarantine for a period of ten (10) days and be symptom-free before they may return to SYC activities or (2) taking a COVID-19 test no earlier than after the 5th day of the fourteenth (14) day quarantine period.

  7. Report any positive COVID-19 cases associated with youth sports to the SYC Operations Manager (still a County requirement).

SYC INDOOR COVID-19 POLICY (SYC teams attending practices/scrimmages/games/meets/ tournaments hosted by other clubs/venues):

Traveling SYC Teams will follow the established COVID-19 policies of the host club/venue while participating in their practices/scrimmages/games/meets/tournaments.

Please note this policy/guidance is fluid.  The Governor of Virginia could change the state’s COVID-19 guidance again anytime.  If that happens, the SYC Return-to-Play (R2P) Committee will re-visit SYC’s COVID-19 Policy/Guidance and adjust accordingly.
